Traditional Navajo jewelry with remarkable
story-telling scenery is a trademark of Navajo artist Robert Taylor.
Robert was born on the Navajo Reservation at Indian Wells, Arizona,
in 1961. During his early childhood, he spent his summers and
vacations tending the sheep for his family. Even with all that
hard work, he managed to have time for the traditional Navajo story-telling
by his father Carl, which would last into the early morning hours.
His ambition to learn story-telling was expressed by putting his
story into his jewelry-making and building strong cross-cultural
communication throughout the world.
Robert started working with his art when he was 10. He began by
buffing his brothers' and sisters' jewelry. However, he learned
jewelry-making from his late father.
Robert's very detailed designs are in 14K gold and 14K gold on
sterling silver. He creates a vision of his "Dine" people
and their everyday lifestyle.
Robert's work is collected both nationally and internationally
and has won numerous awards. His work can also be seen in the
books,
"Enduring Traditions, Art of the Navajo" and "Navajo
Jewelry, A Legacy of Silver and Stone,"
both by Lois and Jerry Jacka.
